It’s official – Laid With Love eggs have a Great Taste Award.
The Lakes Free Range Egg Company (The Lakes) has won a Great Taste Award for the Laid With Love brand of free-range eggs.
The Great Taste Awards are the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme with a panel of experts that include chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers. Commenting on the quality, the judging panel said “The eggs are fresh tasting and a joy to eat. They have a deep golden yolk with a good depth of flavour. The yolk has a deep orange with a lovely sheen and buttery on the palate. This is a very pleasantly flavoured egg”.
David Brass, Chief Executive Officer at The Lakes said “We have been developing the Laid With Love Brand since 2012 when we launched it at Taste Cumbria, with two pence per dozen sold donated to cancer research. Our hens are fed on a natural diet that is enriched with lutein from marigold extract it is this which gives the eggs their rich golden colour and great taste. We are delighted that we now have it listed in local independent shops and national food retailers including Tesco’s, Booths, Sainsbury’s and more recently in Asda, it has all helped us raise thousands of pounds for cancer research.
“The county has so many great food and drink producers. We are one of 28 Cumbrian companies achieving 42 Great Taste Awards, so we are in great company. It is also exciting to hear that two of The Lakes’ local customers received awards – Eva’s Organics for their Organic Apple Juice and double congratulations go to Cranston’s who received two – one for their Cumberland Sausage with Black Pudding and another for their Traditional Cooled Ham on the Bone, both go well with eggs.
“As a sweet treat, we were delighted to see the tasty Westmorland Pepper Cake from Ginger Bakers achieved two stars. They kindly shared the recipe, which is featured on our website, but you would be hard-pushed to replicate their extraordinary flavours.
“We would also like to congratulate another Penrith producer – Mr Vikki’s, who is the most prolific winner in Cumbria with 11 awards this year including a three-star award for Mr Vikki’s Habanero Chili Jam.
In the coming months, we will be looking to create recipes that incorporate many of these award-winning ingredients.”
