It’s a very athletic time of year with some amazing stories coming out of the Paralympics in Rio. We thought we’d just tell you about one of our own fund raising athletes in the office!
Here at the Lakes Free Range Egg Company we’ve been supporting Cancer Research UK since we launched our ‘Laid With Love’ egg brand – which donates 2p per dozen to cancer research. In addition to this, our team of ladies take part in the annual Race for Life in Carlisle where they meet up with staff from Tesco’s Carlisle who we know well. But there’s another person who wanted to do something too.
This year our Head of Agriculture Roger Gill has also been inspired to do some running – though he’s travelled further than any of us to do it. Roger took part in the Paris Marathon earlier this year. It’s a tough one finishing across the cobbled streets of Paris.
Not having run any distance to mention since his teens, Roger was inspired when he attended the 2015 London marathon to support one of his sons entry.
“I was inspired by the whole event, it was impressive to see young, old, big and small all getting involved. I ran a bit at home and once I had completed 5 miles I realised it was just a case of putting the training in and booked my place at Paris 16.”
It was extremely hot and very tough, but Roger finished in a very respectable 4 hours and 57 minutes and celebrated with dinner on the Champs-Elysees.
Roger set up a Just Giving page and hoped to raise £500 – he has almost doubled that figure, raising £976. There’s still time to make a donation – you can visit his donatin page by clicking
