Ian and Emma farm in West Cumbria, 15 miles from the Solway Firth near the town of Caldbeck, a family farm since 1980. This is now a substantial business and involves all the family who continue to thrive on the lifestyle.

The farm is quite well sheltered with its natural cover of foliage being ideal for the birds to range over. There are ancient hedgerows and woodland on the edge of the farm and additional trees and hedge planting has created more canopy cover allowing the birds to range further afield.

Trees planted include Ash, Dowdy Birch and Rowan, with a small selection of Sessile Oak, Wych Elm, Bird Cherry and Alder indispersed. You will also find some pine and spruce to give cover in winter. The area is rich in wildlife – with Red Squirrels, Bats, Barn Owls, Tree Sparrows, Song Thrush, Spotted Flycatcher, Redstart, Grey partridge and Bullfinch all listed in the area.
