Egg Code: 1UK394SCO
Your free range egg was produced by Buccleuch Estates. The farm is located within the Yarrow and Ettrick valleys, where it has been known as prime farmland for centuries. The range has been enhanced by planting native trees giving hens natural cover.
There are currently numerous mature boundary trees and existing hedgerows, but the programme of planting means hens will have more cover which will encourage them to roam further. Tree species have been selected as part of a Bio-diversity Action plan specific to the estate. It means the trees and shrubs will compliment what already exists and will enhance the environment for local wildlife too. Tree species include Pendunculate Oak, Sessile Oak and Silver Birch, with the addition of a few Downy Birch, Gean, Rowan and Wych Elm. Hedges are planted with Hazel and Hawthorn and there are a few fast growing species for quick cover, plus some Scot’s Pine for evergreen cover in winter.
You will find rich wildlife in the area includes the Song Thrush and Pipistrelle Bats.
